Hi, my name is Raphaël Vicenzi and I am self-taught visual artist living in Brussels,Belgium.
I did not really know what to do with my life until I picked up a copy of Ray Gun and it really lit up a fire within me to learn about graphic design & illustration.
DIscovering David Carson, Vault 49 & Michael Cina's body of works was a true revelation about what you could achieve with digital art.
I started to teach myself the tools of the trade in order to emulate those influences even though it led me to a very different path.
It wasn’t easy but I kept working, learning & failing more often than I dare to admit.
I’ve been working in illustration since 2004 before I luckily joined the Colagene illustration agency and since then I mainly worked for magazines (Votre beauté, Grazia, Company, Figaro madame...), advertising agencies and other projects (Square Enix, Docler media...).
My works have been published in Taschen books (100 Illustrators, Portraits now...), on the web and many other publications.
I am currently exploring collage works as they are closer to an instinctive practice of creating visual maps of my internal landscape.
I am usually inspired by fashion editorials, graphic design, street photography, black metal, the smell of printed ink, brutal typography, ripped posters, shoegaze, abstract art and so much more...
I believe that curiosity about everything is a pre-requisite to generate creative ideas and have a rich internal life so I am constantly looking for new artists to discover, new books to read, new sounds to listen to, new things to learn...
Truth be told, I am a work in progress and that’s great.
I am also looking for an open position in a great company.
So if you are interested to work with me or just say hello, drop me a note.
Talk to you soon !
